I don't mind
Yesterday I went downtown to have lunch with my friend Ryan for our birthdays... Well mostly for his because today is his birthday. He turned 25. He said that makes him old even though I don't feel old and he is only 1 year and 8 days older than me.
I told him I wouldn't mind turning 25 and that we could switch.. So I guess I am turning 25 in about a week... LOL. I couldn't figure out why turning 25 was such a horrible idea for him even though he is 1/4 of a century old now. :)
Then he said to me " of course you don't mind getting older because you age well." True True. Both my parents have aged well so that leaves plenty of hope for me. And for now I like getting older and I like life. Even though I wish I could go back and do some things over I don't ever really want to go back. Everything happens for a reason to make us stronger and wiser.
Thinking like this always reminds me of a song by Anna Nalick. My brother Ben introduced me to her music last summer. My favorite lyrics in the song Breathe (2 A.M.) are:
You can't jump the tracks
We're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table,
No one can find the rewind button now so cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe, whoa breath just breathe
"There's a light at each end of this tunnel" you shout
cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made
You'll just make them again if you'll only try turnin' around
Well Happy 25th to you Ryan and here is to getting old and grey.
